Sir John Cass was born in Rosemary Lane, in the parish of St Botolph Aldgate, on 20 February /1, son of Thomas and Martha Cass. Thomas Cass was a master carpenter at the Tower of London, but in the Cass family moved to Grove Street in Hackney and where Thomas acquired considerable land.
